Geography, module Geographic Information Systems

I Cycle, 4 years, 8 semesters, 240 ECTS credits

 

The study program in Geography, module Geographic Information Systems consists of 4 years of study (8 semesters), for which the student receives 240 credit points (CP). These undergraduate studies and the program are organized for the acquisition of the VI/А education degree according to the National frame of qualifications and fulfillment of the qualification descriptors.

 

The professional title awarded after the completion of the first cycle of studies and defense of the graduation thesis is Bachelor of Geography - Geographic Information Systems.

 

The study program provides an opportunity for further continuous education at a higher level of studies - the second cycle of studies organized by the Institute of Geography in various fields of geography (cartography and GIS, physical, social, and economic).

Method of financing

Applicants are enrolled as full-time state-funded students, full-time co-funded students, and part-time students at the Institute of Geography studies.

Enrollment conditions

The conditions and criteria for enrolling students in the study programs at the "Ss. Cyril and Methodius University" are prescribed by the Rectorate of the University in accordance with the legal regulations and the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Science.

 

Structure of the study program

The Institute of Geography organizes studies in Geography with the modules: Teaching Geography, Geographical Information Systems, Physical Geography with Geo-ecology, and Demography. In the modular approach, two groups of subjects are distinguished: a group of core or basic subjects, common to all modules, and a group of modular subjects, depending on the selected module that the student chose when enrolling in the studies. Students practice for a duration of 30 days

In the study program, in the 2nd, 4th and 6th semesters, the realization of a student practice is foreseen, which assumes practice in various planning organizations, statistical institutions, state and other institutions and organizations that work with issues in the geography field. Before enrolling in the corresponding next semester, the student is required to prove the realization of the student internship with a certificate from the organization where he realized the internship and deposit it in the student file.

The study program includes the creation and defense of a graduation thesis, which is valued at 5 ECTS. It is recommended that the students prepare the graduation work within the module, that is, the field they have chosen, and that is, from the more narrowly specialized subjects.

Ways of choosing the elective subjects

Within the Geography study program, module - Geographical Information Systems, there are a total of 14 elective subjects, of which (10 in total) students choose from the list of elective subjects from the Institute of Geography, and for the remaining 4 subjects, students have a free choice of subject offered on the University's list of free electives for the first cycle of studies. It is necessary to choose courses that are compatible with the chosen module/program.
